About the Class
Scribbling Shack: Steampunk 101 is a one-term class with a partial base on steampunk fiction. However, the lessons will not focus on telling you how to write in the steampunk style, because there isn't really a specific style to follow. If anyone tells you otherwise, they're wrong. Seriously, people have their own aesthetics, and it's not really fair of me to dictate them, either. So while portions of the class may require some creativity, Steampunk 101 is by no means a writing class. It is more an intro into this fabulous sub-genre that's quickly taking form and gathering, shall we say, steam.
About Cassandra Lobiesk
I do not consider myself a super-expert on the topic of steampunk, and likely there are fellows on HOL and beyond who are much more capable of teaching a class such as this one than I. However, I try to do my research, and I've come to love the subgenre almost as I have, say, fairy tales and fantasy. They're not exactly on the same spectrum, but that's the fun part, I suppose!
Just as a background, though, I have done some writing with regards to steampunk fiction, and likely I will continue to do so, when I'm not attempting to write fantasy (or maybe I'm doing both...dun dun duuuun!). I've also read, watched, listened, played, worn, and "eaten" steampunk on various degrees, so there's that.
